I had a vocal instructor who would just marvel at his ability to project feelings and tone all while “not possessing a technical bone in his entire body”.
Of course, it was true. He was an imperfect artist that constantly committed technical faux paux in his elocution, but for him it worked amazingly well and was what made him so unique.
BTW…that instructor told me (who wanted to sing like Johnny) to give it up. While Johnny’s bad habits worked for him, trying to duplicate those bad habits made me ever the worse singer. There were no takers to argue on my behalf….
