TYLER THE CREATOR — FLOWER BOY REVIEW
Flower Boy (Or Scum Fuck Flower Boy) is a Tyler’s most colorful, vibrant and vulnerable body of work yet. Flower Boy expresses a side of Tyler that we’re not used to hearing from him, but honestly, it’s a welcome change.
It’s very welcoming to get such refreshing radiant sonics on this album. Alexander Mann said it well in our video reaction, it appears “Tyler is changing before us and he’s becoming someone whose less angry at the world”. From the album cover, to the vulnerable lyrical content, to the choice of features and hooks. Based on his previous work this is not what the average Tyler fan would expect to hear next. But if there’s one thing that’s guaranteed in music it’s change — as people change so does the music.

Our main criticism with this album is the confusing placement of some of the tracks. We mentioned it in our video but why shove such a hard hitting banger such as ‘Who Dat Boy’ in the middle of two sombre calm tracks (See You Again & Potthole). The same can be said for ‘I Ain’t Got Time’. Listening to those two tracks by themselves sends you into a very different mental state and energy level than the rest of the album. With that, this album can’t be very cohesive from an energy/production perspective. But we can get over that when we look at the theme of this album as a whole and it’s OVERALL sound. ‘November’ and ‘Garden Shed’ are two of his most serious significant tracks on this album that may go down as some of Tyler’s most important tracks in his discography.
Also….”This is the first Tyler The Creator album you can play at you’re average workplace and get away with.”…let’s just point that out.
