There are many misconceptions about blockchain. In order to clear up some of the confusion, I have compiled a definition for what is meant by the word “Blockchain.” You will see some definitions are similar or redundant but with a few different words, and this will actually help you to grasp the overall concept.

  9. Blockchain is a General Purpose Technology (GPT), just like the internet.
  10. Blockchain is a form of database, more specifically a distributed database.
  11. Blockchain makes it possible for triple entry accounting.
  12. Blockchain can, in theory, be used to immutably record any number of data points.
  13. Blockchain is a chain of blocks. Each block is like a page of a ledger or a record book.
