Do They Wash Highways?!
I have my morning routine pretty well planned out — wake up, work out, eat breakfast, shower, make lunch, head out the door — all down to where I get to work within the same 5 minute stretch every day. Yesterday, I was about halfway in to my commute and was merging on to (I guess you would call it) a highway when I noticed traffic was backed up. I thought nothing of it — one lane was closed, I figured they were setting up to do some work later that day. A minor setback, but nothing major.
Then today, I reach the same point and again, down to one lane but it seems to be the OTHER lane. And as I’m driving, I notice that there doesn’t seem to be anything new from the day before in the lane that was closed. Curious. As I’m stuck in this huge line of cars, I can’t help but notice that there are no workers anywhere on the other side of the cones. That is, until I get probably 200 feet from the end of the line. In the closed lane, there is a big water truck (going backwards, mind you) with two guys walking ahead of (or I guess behind?) HOSING DOWN THE LANE.
What the fuck?! Were these guys WASHING the highway?? Is that a thing? And if so, maybe don’t pick rush hour traffic in the morning as the time to do it. Maybe close that shit down for night work if all you are doing is spraying water on it, even though its been raining like a motherfucker for about a week and a half.
I know what you’re thinking — “now, now, maybe they were prepping it for something later in the day.” Nope. And wanna know how I know? At the end of the line of traffic, there was some other dude hanging out of the passenger side of a truck picking up the cones! All they were doing was spraying water on the road and inconveniencing people. Do you not have any real work to do?! I can give you like 7 roads in town that need to be repaved/potholes filled. Go do that instead of washing a Goddamn highway.
Rant over.
