Great post. Also, I think when you throw in the synaptic connection between neurons, making the graph into a weighted (direct) graph, things become even more complicated. And what about the synaptic dynamic that change over time (cause by learning etc)?

It is important to consider the structural connectivity and the functional connectivity together, but thinking from a dynamic perspective I doubt it would ever be possible to record both fatefully.
