The beauty of grayscale

For the first time, I joined a photography group in meetup.com. I met Christine, the organizer of “Queens Photo Connect”, last friday at Washington Square Park. Our theme is to capture city life in black and white mode.

Even sometimes I captured a few pictures with b/w mode, but I never do it for a whole afternoon. This was quite challenging is that, without the fancy color but only a simple color mode, how do you find the story behind it.

I find it challenge but inspiring at the same time that actually b/w mode pictures can easily bring a sense of emotion and sentimental since it’s so “simple”, but very deep at the same time. Without the distraction of the “multi-colors”, we can focus our attention on the other aspects, such as composition, contrast, story, lighting and even creativity.

WHAT I LEARN FROM B/W MODE PHOTOGRAPHY:

Sometimes when we get simpler, although we lost something, but we might also find something interesting or the beauty behind it, and there might be more potentials waiting for us to find out.

Boston downtown
A Church in the Harvard Unitersity
A End sign board near Kissena Park
Tree shadows at Kissena Park
Brooklyn Bridge
The Fence near Kissena Park
Grand Central Station
Detroit International Airport
Fountain at Detroit International Airport
Fishing Village at Penang, Malaysia
Niagara Falls

Finally, that’s me and my girlfriend at Penang (Malaysia). We were taking pictures with the beautiful street wall art by Luthenian artist, Ernest Zacharevic.

I learned more especially in the National Geographic’s assignment — “Nature in Black and White”. You will find out more great pictures there on how photographers tell stories through their pictures.

I hope you will find out these pictures inspiring and have a great lively week. Comment here if you have a story how is a b/w mode inspire you in your life~
