I think this is a great initiative but 1 project per year is giving that side project too much time in my book. For example, I participated in Gumroad’s Small Product Lab this year where I wrote and shipped a book in 10 days, completely from scratch. The deadline definitely helped and I’m 99% sure that if I gave myself 356 days instead of 10, I would’ve never finished it. :)

I understand products vary and a tech book takes much less time than a drag-n-drop web page builder, but still — I’d personally have much greater satisfaction after shipping 3–4 smaller sider projects than 1 that would take me a year to complete.
