A friend told me of a teacher who used a similar round robin ritual at school before each class. If there were students who were on bad terms the teacher would bring it up and talk it through.

The teacher hoped this approach would help prevent some students from becoming estranged and feeling lonely. He mentioned a shy girl as an example. She’d go from class to class without saying a word to anyone.
