Vitamin C or ascorbic acid, is an important part of the diet for any and every age group at all times of the year. It is a water-soluble vitamin that is essential for the body to function well. It maintains the skin & connective
 Tissues in a healthy state.
Fruits and vegetables that give you this essential nutrient include: kiwi, citrus fruits, broccoli, guava, bell peppers, leafy vegetables, turnips, tomatoes, strawberries and papayas. Because our body cannot produce Vitamin C, we need to take other foods or supplements rich in it.
Also Vitamin C is destroyed easily by cooking foods at high temperatures or for long duration. Do take care that you don’t destroy the nutrients the foods you intake.

Symptoms of Scurvy (a deficiency of Vitamin C) include fatigue, mood swings, weight loss, some joint and muscle aches, easy bruising, dental bleeding and dry hair and skin.

As time passes, the lack of vitamin C, means that new collagen can’t be formed in the body. This also puts you at risk of developing other illnesses as your immunity depends on collagen synthesis. A short list of body’s problems that it helps, are mentioned below:

Common Cold This vitamin increases the body’s ability to fight viruses, hence decreasing the severity of colds & flu. It also decreases the duration of cold attacks and boosts your immunity.

Hypertension

A high blood pressure and abnormal readings can be controlled by regularly taking vitamin C.

Stress

Vitamin C promotes health by decreasing the level of stress hormones. It helps in keeping your body stress-free and healthy. It is the only vitamin that promotes health by relieving stress, keeping your body away from all the side effects of stress.

Fat Metabolism

Abdominal fat or stomach fat, is adipose (fatty) tissue, located in the abdominal cavity or around it. And for a proper fat breakdown, it is a must to have Vitamin C. It enables a lot of functions of the body by activating the fat metabolism pathways, thereby keeping your weight in check as well.

Collagen Production or better skin

Collagen cannot be produced simply by the body naturally unless it has Vitamin C. But our body loses the ability to produce it as we age, hence the freckles and the wrinkles.
Vitamin C enables the body to produce collagen, keeping your skin smooth & healthy.
