the words where to submit for us by us in typewriter font. just femme & dandy’s logo — a nonbinary figure with a black pompadour, red lips, and grey eyeshadow, a black top, with a white bowtie with black polka dots. just femme & dandy and “a lit mag for & by queers+ on fashion” is below the logo.

We’ve decided to try out creating a where to submit directory (for submitting to lit mags) specifically for underrepresented communities. I don’t want to limit who we support, but please reach out especially if you publish or are edited by: Black, Indigenous, POC, LGBTQIA+, Disabled, and other underrepresented communities.

Aside from the particulars of how long your calls are out, what submissions you’re looking for, and any other guidelines, please let us know the following, and please provide a link for any/all answers.

  1. Do you have editors from these communities represented on your masthead? Be as specific as possible.
  2. Are you a paying market? Let us know how much you pay writers.
  3. Do you publish writers from that community? Be specific.
  4. What percentage of your issues publish writers from underrepresented communities? Again, be specific.
  5. Let us know any work you do to make your magazine accessible — including, but not limited to: image descriptions, consideration of font legibility, length of prose re: screen fatigue, and any other considerations that keep the disabled community in mind
  6. Link us your policies, especially around fiction, re: hate speech, implicit bias, fatphobia, transphobia, misogyny, racism, ableist language, etc.
  7. When are you open for Submissions? How do writers submit?
  8. Anything else I’ve left off that you’d like to make us aware of?

You can send us this information to addie@justfemmeanddandy.com.
