MY JOURNEY TO LOSE 10lbs in ONE MONTH

Welcome or welcome back if you’ve already seen what I’m up to this coming 28days or so
On 11th August 2018, I set myself the goal to lose 10lbs in the following month
This is my final update!
MY PROGRESS
I failed! And I’m really happy about it!
What? Why?
First, the result. I only lost 6.5lbs over the month — not the 10lbs I had set out to lose
Of course, you can see right away that I actually lost weight and you’re right, I am happy about that. But there are other reasons, bigger reasons for me to be happy
THE OTHER REASONS I’M HAPPY
The biggest reason is that this last week of my “official challenge”, you know something, it really wasn’t that hard
I actually didn’t miss my weekend snacking. I’ll tell you a secret, I still had a few snacks and some alcohol, but a lot less than I used to have
And I didn’t miss having a muffin with my coffee
And I actually look forward to salad!
All of which means that I’m forming habits. . . for more about making and breaking habits, read my blog on habits here
Forming new habits is the foundation, the bedrock, of staying where you want to be and not sliding back
In this case, I want to be a lower weight and stay there. Consider if I’d have gone on a “diet”, what do you think would happen this coming week if I’d have decided to give up all processed sugar, or carbs, or meat, or. . .
You’re absolutely right! I’d be trying the products that I’d cut out, I’d almost certainly have a big smile as I consumed them and be saying “Yummy! Tasty!” to myself — and that would be the start of my weight gain
Probably right back to the weight I was when I’d started
Deprivation is not a long-term strategy!
Habit change is!
I’m also happy about the third week, where I failed to lose any weight
Check my blog “Embrace Failure” to see why failure should be a BFF
I now have knowledge I can use in the future, I failed to lose weight that week as I’d visited my parents and they love looking after me — with food and drink!
Now I know how hard it can be, I can develop more and better strategies to endeavor to try and stay on track when I’m with them
The main strategy, I believe, will be to communicate (check my blog on “Effective Communication”) and get them on my side if at all possible
And if that doesn’t work, I can try to spend fewer meal-times with them, or show them pictures of me at a heavier weight and tell them how much better I feel now, or build up my inner strength, or. . .
You get it, what I can do is work on alternative strategies, until I find one that works
WHAT COMES NEXT?
Well, I still want to lose that extra 3.5lbs, so I’m going to keep going on the same track, what I’ve done has worked
Just because I didn’t reach my goal, doesn’t mean that I’m giving up
You should never beat yourself up for failing to reach a goal. You should look for the positive, take lessons from the failure and use all the information to be better prepared for your next challenge
If you managed to move in the right direction, even a little, that’s wonderful!
Was I lucky? No, my preparation set me up to experience some success in my challenge
