This is one in a series of essays that was originally conceived as a book for print publication. If you enjoy it and would like to read more from the collection, you can find a sort of Table of Contents here.

It’s an interesting, and frustrating, part of being human: we tend to piss each other off all the time.

Why is that?

Well, let’s look at it from a few different standpoints:

We’re Only Human

It’s in our nature to be selfish, manipulative beings with an “I, Me, Mine” attitude and always looking for the easy way. We hold grudges, we excuse our own mistakes and we hate, mock or nag others who fall out of line with our way of thinking.

But, at the same time, we fully expect other people to be forgiving of us, kind to us, tolerant of our actions and willing to listen to our point of view respectfully.

You’re probably seeing where this is going, but let’s leave it to the end.

We’re Overly Familiar
