This frustration is valid — the smartest people (and money) will ignore the noise and find the signal in services that are meaningful, valuable, and enduring. The winners will connect to some larger human truth. Facebook is probably doing the best job of this right now — it reflects a primal desire to be a member of a tribe. Medium is trying to get there — TTR is a noble metric which roughly reflects a genuine desire to learn. And, as Aristotle wrote, “All men by nature desire to know.”
