Promising the Earth: No Man’s Sky
Paul Kilduff-Taylor

Isn’t the definition of “Hype” to exaggerate benefits and features in order to garner more sales? To say it was hyped is to say that people were misled — but everyone is, ALL THE TIME — welcome to a consumer society. The problem as I see it is that this title (which I own, and enjoy) was so anticipated, there is no way that they could meet expectation. Some naivete on HG’s part, for sure, understandable given the unprecedented interest, but this small room full of guys have created something remarkable, something that some other studios would throw 200 guys at and it wouldn’t be any better. I don’t think that gets said enough. Without the likes of HG (and this esteemed blogger), all games would be the same iterations of FPS, RPG and MOBA. Save your hate for stuff that matters.
