℟: Medium Wishlist — Personal Publications
Stories once published in a publication should not be moved to another publication. Sorry writers. This is something very core to a publication. In the race to get more recommends you move your stories from one publication to another. What about the work the editor does on your story? He/she is not just an editor. He/she is also a curator. Are you betraying the publication and the editor by removing it and adding it to another publication?
I agree with you in part, but this leads into a Medium wishlist item of mine:
Medium should give user profile pages the same layout options and features that publications have.
Many Medium writers, myself included, have created personal publications as a way to give unclaimed pieces a home. In the one publication mentality, this would prevent many stories from ever leaving the author’s personal home. However if the same formatting options were available, along with a “published by insert_username_here” spot in place of the publication title atop the article, then small authors would have a better way of arranging and showing off their work for visitors to their profile. Right now we can choose to feature a single article or let Medium show off our top one. But with a publication, the layout options are endless.
If Medium makes this change than I’m all for the one publication idea.
Upadte: I’ve also noticed that Medium provides ZERO way to format posts written in the mobile app nor do they allow responses written in the mobile apps to be saved as drafts. This seems like a huge oversight and are new additions to my wishlist.
