Water is a vital component of life, so much so that our daily routine and lifestyle are dependent towards water consumption and use. In fact, our need for water is justified by its abundance. About 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered in water and 96.5% of Earth’s water is found in our oceans. However, despite this concentrated resource distribution, it is alarming that our oceans and its marine ecosystem are constantly threatened to be destroyed.

Marine pollution is one of our oceans’ top threats. One study revealed that by 2050, plastics in the ocean will outweigh fish in volume. Several efforts have been made by different organizations to combat the grave and irreversible effects of marine pollution. Recently, BeeStripe LLC, a tech development company based in Hawaii, released a game called Ocean Sweep in an effort to raise awareness on marine pollution. This match 3 game, which you can download for free, features match 3 puzzles wherein the goal is to take out as much plastic trash to clear the level. In addition, part of profits made from the game are independently donated to NGOs that help clean the most polluted parts of our oceans.

Although it may seem to be on a micro level, efforts like this can collectively conserve our oceans and other marine resources. You can also do your part in our fight against ocean pollution by trying out Ocean Sweep.
