How Does Our Personality Evolves With Age?

The popular story goes like this....the carpenter chisel away the unwanted wood to produce a beautiful sculpture.

Let us bring this process into building the character of a person. Experts say that a vast majority of people become mature human beings with time. Firstly each person must become a person with individuality. This doesn't mean that he should not adjust to the positive changes brought about by societal interactions. On the contrary, the personality of an individual must synchronise with societal needs for the common good.

Let us take the first anecdote where the bad and unwanted waste is chiselled out to produce a fine sculpture. During the pruning process, a person has to undergo painful experiences of shedding his ego, self-centeredness and pride. This pruning process continues for years until death. But some people refuse to accept the pain and resist making changes in his character. They are mostly arrogant and self-centred people boasting about their money and influence.

The basis of the character of a person is completed during childhood. The rest of the years in the life of a person reflect and make adjustments to the subconscious mind of an individual. But remember that positive changes in the thinking pattern of an adult can make a remarkable impact on his personality.

Please keep in mind that your children's psyche is like a sponge absorbing whatever they see and hear during childhood. But very few people's personalities emerge in their fullness at a later stage in adult life. This might be because of a spiritual awakening or a life-changing event in their life like the abundant love and support of a spouse, friend, mentor etc., getting an education in a reputed institution or being employed in a good organisation with a lot of dynamic group interactions.

Let us learn to love ourselves more than be influenced by the words and actions of others. Every person can have an attractive personality only if he allows the natural process of chiselling by God and men.
