“Take notes…but I don’t have a pen” — Van Wilder
I get asked a lot what are the best “tools” that are out there to keep track of what’s going on. I’ve said before I just use a notebook, but that’s changed recently thanks to iOS 9 and Mac OS X 10.11. The new best tool (at least for me, and it should be for you) is the built in Notes App. Here’s why:
As of iOS 9, and OS X 10.11, the notes app allows for rich text (like bold, italics, etc), checkmarks (great for todos), and you can insert pictures and even draw in a note. while I’m a horrible artist, when I need to jot down a design I can easily just draw right on the screen with my finger (on my iPhone of course) and boom have the idea down. Also the Notes app isn’t going away any time soon (I’m looking at you Evernote!)
What’s great about this is I no longer need the paper notebook, despite that I love how a pen feels against paper ::chills::.
With the checkmarks ability it’s so easy for me to write up my To do’s

I got a few things to do still today.
And thanks to iCloud, my notes from my main computer sync with my iPhone, iPad and laptop. If you look closely, the new version of Notes app also has a recently deleted section. So if you accidentally delete your note — no fear! The note will stay in the recently delete for 30 days.
As for my note titles I have a few I think everyone should have:
- Ideas! — write down every idea you have for a product, whether big, small, silly, genius, or dumb. Even if it’s something you can never build. Hell I have “Pizza Automat” on mine. I love pizza and I loved the automat when it existed. For you youngness here’s some info on what an automat is. I also have on there to look up more on LED lights for my house to save me money. That’s simple I just had the idea and wrote it down
- Things I want to accomplish — This list is a utopian list of things you want to accomplish in your life time. For me it has everything from have a successful ACEs Conference with 250 people, to open a hotel/casino in Las Vegas.
- Things I wish to acquire — This is a clear cut list of things you want to buy, with prices. This way you have a monetary goal list.
- How to better myself — This is a list of things you think you can do to better yourself. Albeit work out, read a new book, or learn about something unrelated to anything your know now.
Keep your notes organized and you’ll be surprised how quickly you can accomplish those goals.
Get writing!
