this might trigger interstate commerce clause issues but it seems worth a try! at the very least it might delay changes until we can revert this change at the federal level.
I love the villages too. Is it possible that the best way to preserve their local character is more holistic planning at a higher level?
The first graph shows that declining socioeconomic diversity is affecting the region, not just San Francisco. My point is that we should think about solutions at the level we’re having the problems — which is regionally.
You raise a great point. I’m definitely not anti-density, though. I think we can achieve quite a bit more density in SF and much of the region, and I hope it happens. But what comes first, density or transit? I think transit does.
We only have a substring search requirement for one “lookup” right now, so we ended up actually using the datastore and tokenizing our strings into a repeated property with an index. It feels pretty hacky, but it seems to do the trick. Our first instinct (and maybe our future direction) will be to use the Search API.
Thanks Metse. We dismissed Azure pretty early on. The documentation didn’t feel as friendly. Even browsing today, I see they have a Python quick-start, but it’s hard for me to grasp all the different services they offer around storage, search, caching, etc. Google makes it all so easy at https://cloud.google.com/appengine/docs/standard/python/. I’d…
Sounds like a tough decision!!
I hope you guys find a place where you can keep doing great writing and earn a good living doing it.
I’m sad that authors who pitch stories won’t have a byline that is so well-connected to their personal writing… maybe there is a way to preserve that on Wired’s platform (a link, etc).
Best of luck!
That could work! Criticizing is always easier than creating and maintaining something — especially something like a health exchange for 1.3 million people — and I respect that. But I also think we have a responsibility to ask ourselves if our systems are working, and if not, why? I’m pretty sure turning off adblockers isn’t the solution to America’s…
