Life Time Minneapolis Triathlon

On Saturday I did the Life Time Olympic distance in Minneapolis. This was a wonderful race in a very nice location. I hope to do it again in future years. The bike course is super flat with lots of shade, and very sheltered from the wind. Roads were a little rough in a few spots, but not that bad. The run course is flat around Lake Nokomis, with lots of shade.

I did ok for my race.

Swim was nice and calm, the time-trial start is really great for this type of race. Hardly any congestion at all. Had some sighting issues heading east into the sun, but other than that the swim was fine.

Over-biked and then faded after the first half of the run. I was enjoying myself back on my tri bike a bit too much. I did back off a bit in the last 2 miles to try to slow things down, but it wasn’t enough.

Oh, and I couldn’t find my spot in T2, first time that has happened. Burned off about a minute standing around with by bike trying to locate my spot. Two bad things I did, first I went looking for 451 instead of 541; and second I couldn’t see my number because earlier I hung my wetsuit over the rack bar covering the number. Usually I don’t have a problem with this, I’ll have to think about it more next time.

Running was ok. I faded pretty badly at the halfway point. It felt like everyone was just flying by.

Overall I’m happy with the day and my place.

“Career” wise, I’m finally starting to crawl over the halfway point, and settle into midfield. After several seasons of always being a few spots away from last place, getting to the middle is pretty exciting.

I think my progress can be represented by this image I whipped up in Paint.

It’s great to see progress, even if it’s slow.
