I’m 36 and it took me until 30 to realize all of this. It comes down to a single core problem: parents mapping out and designing the life their son/daughter is to take…or complete disregard and lack of direction. It’s them raising a child to look at the world as binary. Do what gains approval, do not do what receives disapproval. It starts with the parent from 0–4, and then when they leave us to ourselves as most parent work, we are conditioned to live for the world’s approval. Yes out parents love us, but what’s love got to do with our career and identity. It is the parents job to teach us how to read a map and how to navigate not design it for us based on the current trend or what they wished they did.
