It’s hard to say. I don’t think Puerto Rico will become a state because its citizens seem to prefer independence from my research. I also don’t see why California would allow Jefferson to split away — the state would lose at least some power (maybe 1 electoral vote?). And the newly formed Jefferson would likely lean GOP (I assume), giving the Republicans two more Senators and one more Congressman — not in CA’s best interest.
I suppose it’s only a matter of time before something changes, though. That change could happen in five years or 100 years. Personally, I think Texas may very well one day split into five states just because it can. Regardless of the outcome, it would be interesting to see how that hypothetical process plays out. . .
