Disappointment .11 08 Thurs.
Felt like I’d been hit by a bus when I woke up. Harvey spent his first night alone and woke up pretty much every hour on the hour to whine and cry. As soon as one of us went through to tell him to go to sleep, he would oblige and pass out. Long night. Took him walking after breakfast but he’s not a fan of the rain yet. Didn’t last long.
Had coaching again in the morning. Left home in the middle of a downpour, which continued through the entire time I was outside. Got home soaked to the bone. Harvey had made a complete mess of his play pen and seemed to have been rolling around in poop while I was away. He stank, so I gave him bath and he was good as new.
Got a mail from the recruiter for the position I was excited about. She said that while I had interviewed well and they were impressed with me as a candidate, they felt that a different position would suit me better. The position was in HR, and I was told that I more suited a sports marketing job. The positive feedback was that they like me as a candidate and would like to keep in touch for future openings. I suppose that is a positive, since most recruiters at big companies won’t say stuff like that for no reason. I’m disappointed, but remain upbeat. Next week brings two more meetings that show a lot of promise, so onwards and upwards I go.
Played a training match in the evening and despite missing half our team and most of us having never played a match together, it was a decent start. Lots to work on and improve, but that’s the joy of preseason. Some of the newcomers really impressed, which is a great sign for the future.
All this miserable rain is making me miss South Africa. Cape Town in June feels like a distant memory…
Friday tomorrow, awesome.
