I’ve followed Rooster Teeth for little over a half-decade at this point, but I’ve had to become more selective with what I watch from them due to the copious amounts of content they currently produce. However, one of the series that has caught my eye was RWBY, and now the game is being developed from a fan creation to a full console release, thanks to Rooster Teeth buffing their game production efforts. So, does it live up to the heights of one of Rooster Teeth’s best shows, or fall flat in the wake of greatness?

Gameplay:

There could be a lot to get skeptical about when concerning RWBY: Grimm Eclipse, but if you’re going into the game with these sentiments, prepare to get blown away. For instance, the game accomplishes a simplified hack n slash style that’s truly refreshing, and there’s just enough variety between each character so you won’t get bored. On top of this, some great design choices have been fleshed out to near perfection, which I’ll get into along with my impressions of the narrative.

Story & Design:

Grimm Eclipse’s plot is more limited in scope when compared to the web show, but these spots are certainly filled in with well-working features such as four player coop and Horde Mode. This is also a game that values cooperation, instead of each player going on their separate paths and then converging when necessary.

Presentation/ Visuals & Audio:

Unfortunately, I do have some complaints about Grimm Eclipse, and these mostly relate to how buggy the game can be sometimes. While there weren’t any hard resets, I did have some online issues and brawls that lacked polish. I’m a bit disappointed this wasn’t fixed as I really did like the rest of the game, especially the visual style which still impresses in video game form.

Conclusion:

It might not translate as well to newcomers, but the video game adaptation of RWBY was a worthy effort from Rooster Teeth. Hack n slash combat works like a charm, and the game feels varied on top of having a good amount of content. In terms of video games, I’m now intrigued to see where Rooster Teeth will go next.

RWBY: Grimm Eclipse gets a 8/10 (Very Good)

We’d like to thank Rooster Teeth for giving us a code!
