I Quit, I Don’t Care

A Poem

Life is a puzzle

We must learn to succeed

By thought, hope and action

By word, yes, and deed.

Life is a game

That is rigged from the start

No one can win

And it will break your heart

Life is fucked up, dear

You can’t win if you try

But you have to keep playing

That’s the rule, I don’t lie

Break the rules, you can do it!

I hope and I pray

I have to myself, now

I can’t live through the day

I am dying, I know it

I keep trying in vain

My life a long list

Of grief, sorrow, pain

Humans are evil

They do it themselves

While decrying their neighbors

Who do it to elves

Elves are the children

Who are born full of hope

But humans are evil

They will kill and they grope

The children are needed

To continue the game

If they run out of players

Then who will have fame?

Fame is the goal here

By hook or by crook

You will struggle in vain

If you can’t see the book

The rules are not written

No one can know them, why ask?

Only Stem rhymes with them, dear

I know, it fell flat

The game is a charlatan

No one can win, can’t you see?

If you think you are winning

You are losing, be free!

The best you can do

Is withdraw from the race

Just don’t care anymore, dear

And you will save half your face

The face you keep hidden

That’s the one you will save

So pull out now, I’m pleading

Turn away and don’t wave

Just go, it’s alright now

Go away and be free

You will win if you quit, dear

Don’t ask me, just leave

No permission is needed

Just go! Now! Just leave!

I know you want them to notice

But they won’t, you’ll be free

Someone may knock on your door, dear

If they do, set them free

While they may come in friendship

They may come with a fee

If you pull out of the game

Then they lose, don’t you know?

They need you to play, dear

So that they can fake grow

They need all your money

They need all your strength

They need all your fame, dear,

They need you to break

Walk away and be free now

You can do it, just go

They will move on without you

And you? You will glow

Be a beacon of hope

For yourself, most of all

Be yourself and be free

That’s the best move of all.
