One of the interesting things is that you have so many tutorials how to do something, but when you need to do something at your own computer, specially dual boot OS… it’s always the question: “ Maybe this is not the best tutorial? What if something go wrong?? “ and so many other questions, at least in my head.

So I decided to write these parts of story on medium, using good or bad experience, how to avoid it if happen, what is better to do and how to do it.

On the begin we need to have few things:

  1. USB 16GB/ 32GB — it will be used for flashing the image to a USB. For this operation it’s good to use free program balenaEtcher. You can download it on link https://www.balena.io/etcher/ . Wait for message that is Flash Complete! After this message your USB is corrected format and prepared for installation.

UPDATE: Instead of balenaEtcher you can also use old tool Rufus (https://rufus.ie/en/) to make USB image for installation.

2. Shrinking storage space for Ubuntu 22.04 installation.

This mean that you need to make extra partition on your disk only for Ubuntu. Shrinking storage from partition C: or partition D: on Windows you will get this storage (depend how big is storage, you can choose the size of partition). I recommend at least 50GB for your Ubuntu installation, because during the usage of system, probably it will need more space for documents, configurations etc.

In the search box in Windows type Computer Management, it will open below window. Or you can use this another steps:

This PC -> Right click -> Manage -> Disk Management -> Windows C: -> Right click -> Shrink volume.
