Fans Demand DNA Test for Michael Jackson Lookalike
This Michael Jackson impersonator looks so much like the late King of Pop that fans are demanding to see a DNA test to prove he isn’t the genuine article.
Sergio Cortes, a professional Jackson impersonator from Spain, often tours and plays tribute shows dedicated to the legendary singer and dancer.
Many fans are convinced that Cortes isn’t actually Cortes at all, but is actually Jackson, who they allege faked his death in 2009.
Is Sergio Cortes Actually Michael Jackson?
Cortes recently posted on his Instagram page, announcing a Thailand tour date and telling Jackson fans to prepare for an awesome tribute show. In the video, the Jackson hit “Thriller” can be heard in the background. Cortes, who is a dead-ringer for Jackson, received quite a massive social media response to his video, but not for his tour dates.
Many posted comments on the video demanding to see a DNA test to prove Cortes isn’t Michael Jackson. One comment with hundreds of likes reads “Oh my god, you’re not Sergio Cortès, you’re Michael Jackson. Someone get his DNA.” Others echoed the sentiment, airing conspiracy theories that Jackson faked his own death to get out of the limelight.
Conspiracy Theories Abound about Michael Jackson
Jackson was notoriously cagey about his fame. Having grown up in the spotlight as a member of the Jackson Five, Michael suffered under the abuse of his father as a superstar child singer. This, in turn, led to his love/hate relationship with the pressures of fame.
On the one hand, he loved the attention of adoring fans. On the other, he hated the glare of paparazzi and the constant scrutiny into his personal life. This narrative fuels many people’s assumptions that the otherwise-healthy Jackson didn’t die of an accidental drug overdose in 2009.
The conspiracy theory holds that Jackson, sick of constant negative press attention relating to allegations of him abusing children at his Neverland ranch, simply faked his death. They hold that this would allow him to live in peace and see his legacy without the harsh attention of the media in his daily life.
For Sergio Cortes, however, he should simply take the attention as a sign of respect. Clearly, he’s doing something right if people can’t tell the difference between him and the legendary singer he seeks to emulate.
