Simone Biles Flips Out During World Series
The crowd went crazy during the World Series when Simone Biles did this — literally flipping out in a way that no one expected!
Simone Biles Was Terrified to Throw the First Ball
Taking the mound to throw the ball to Houston Astros player Jake Marisnick, Biles thought that she would have a little fun with it — well in her comfort zone, Biles breaks out a twisting backflip on the field before taking the ball.
And the crowd loved it.
You can hear the roar of the audience as she takes the ball, though, to her credit, Biles looks a little embarrassed. You would think that being an Olympic gymnast with the most World medals, and most World gold medals, she would be used to the spotlight.
But Biles admitted in an interview afterward that she was very nervous about her first pitch.
“Gymnastics is the only sport I’ve ever done, so when it comes to anything else, I’m literally terrified.” She was apparently worried she would fail! “So, I get more nervous doing this stuff than competing, which is really weird … hopefully, I don’t end up on celebrity fails.”
Biles certainly didn’t.
The Texas Native Couldn’t Bring Good Luck to the Astros, Though
While Biles wasn’t born in Texas — she is originally from Columbus, Ohio — she moved with family to Houston when she was just 3 years old and spent the rest of her childhood there.
Biles was raised by her grandfather and his second wife, Ron and Nellie Biles after her mother was deemed unable to properly care for her or her siblings. Biles has 3 siblings — Ron and Nellie adopted the two youngest, and Ron’s sister adopted the two oldest.
Biles couldn’t bring good luck to the Astros, unfortunately. Despite getting the crowd pumped and executing an impressive spin, the Washington Nationals still absolutely crushed them.
This isn’t her first foray into throwing things, or flipping — in 2016 Biles again threw the first pitch for an Astros vs. Mariners game, and she did a very impressive front flip that probably has a technical name, before launching the ball.
Biles has said before that she plans on retiring after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Her reason? Despite being just 22, the pressure and strain maintaining her training regime and a host of minor injuries have left her feeling like she is “falling apart”.
She certainly doesn’t look it, but who are we to say!
