NOT MY WHEAT

“And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.” Judges 6 : 12

I was driving to Church one Sunday, when a preacher on the radio explained that Gideon took a stand that the Midianites could have everyone’s wheat in Israel: But not his wheat.

This got me thinking and pondering. You see, I had just started a new venture and was seeking for the opinion of my friends and loved ones. However after Church I approached a dear brother of mine about this venture and his words were so discouraging. Broken and distraught I decided not to pursue the venture anymore. I even called friends and prospective customers to cancel their order.

I got home, laid on the bed and started crying, as I wept I heard a gentle whisper “Are you going to let the devil take your wheat? “. At that moment, I realised that I was like the other Israelites who had allowed Midian to take their wheat, yet I still had a choice. I got up, wiped my tears and called my customers to book their orders again.

In today’s verse we see the Lord addressing Gideon, whom we usually consider to be a coward as a mighty man of valour. What set Gideon apart? It was a decision to take steps and act to preserve what was his.

I want to encourage you not to allow the devil to take your wheat. Pursue that dream, rise up from the place of discouragement. Do the needful, do it, even if you are afraid. God is with you. The devil can have everyone’s wheat, BUT NOT YOUR WHEAT!!!
