I quit alcohol and this happened…

It was one of my 2023 New Year’s resolutions. Not an important one, more like “let’s leave behind what I don’t enjoy.” I hadn’t drunk much before, just one or two beers, but I always felt horrible afterward. I’m not only talking about the hangover the next morning but rather the way back home at night — that “helicopter” feeling when your head begins to spin and spin, and you want to vomit, along with that noise in your ears. You finally get home, put your head on the pillow, and it becomes worse in silence.

So, I decided not to take even a little sip of wine. Everything was going well until the first big party. Everyone was drunk, and I was sipping cola zero with no desire for alcohol at all. Then I left the party, and guess what? I started experiencing the “helicopter” feeling on my way home. Probably, I was tired, and people were very noisy — that was my first thought. A few weeks later, I was invited to a home party, and, yes, you guessed correctly — I felt it again. Just a coincidence, I told myself. This coincidence continued at least four more times. What the heck?

I finally sipped a glass of homemade wine in Italy in October and decided to abandon my “I won’t drink because I just don’t enjoy it” mindset.
