Do you need HR in your startup?

I’ve always preferred to introduce myself as a recruiter, a business partner rather than an HR specialist. HR, to most people, sounds unattractive, traditional, outdated. But the truth is that for the last year I have been doing first and foremost HR, whatever that means (basically, anything). And it was one of the best years of my career so far.

And I am not speaking here only about CARTO although they are in the center of everything I do. By collaborating with different Spanish startups as an advisor, I’ve had a great opportunity…

I have been doing this for the last few years and nothing has changed so far: recruitment conversations end up with the statement that there is a talent shortage and technical recruitment is broken. In fact, when people ask me what I do for a living, I tend to answer “HR stuff” instead of “tech recruiter” because I am done with looking at people’s facial expression right after my confession — it always says “you must be a masochist” or “I feel sorry for you, you seem to be a nice person”.

So what is wrong with me, with us…
