Not only potter heads, but also the ones who hardly watched Harry Potter series (may be once or twice) would never forget this character: Dolores Umbridge.

People with intense affinity towards the colour pink would have eventually started hating it after her encounter. She is one whole bunch of disaster dressed up in pretty pink. It is a quite open fact that the prime antagonist of the series was Lord Voldemort and you would definitely experience a cold startle down your spine with his mere name on screen (or books). May be that is why he is someone ‘Who must not be named’ . But this lady makes your skin crawl with the amount of disgust which is little more than the fright for The Dark Lord!

There are obviously many reasons to hate her, but here are 5 most tangible reasons to hate her to the extreme.

#1. NO MAGIC LESSONS

First class turning disastrous for students indeed!

Her first encounter with students at the class was quite horrifying. She entered in burning the paper bird which would have eventually crushed down the expectations of the students. Being the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, she emphasized more on theoretical study than the manoeuvre of wands. This definitely showed her poor teaching abilities. However, Hermione’s disagreement with her way of lessons was clearly visible then. The way she cut in Harry’s opinion was a bit rude ( in other way, irritating).

“Students will raise their hands when they speak in my class”

#2. TORTUROUS TREATMENTS

The detention to Harry Potter for no reason in their first class is a solid proof that a monstrous teacher she is. Umbridge was at her darkest side with her ‘I will not tell lies’ punishment to Harry. Any new watcher or reader of the series would be completely clueless when she said “Oh, you won’t need ink”. But that punishment was totally unexpected. This physical torture with a vicious smile on her face was terrible to read and definitely not tolerable to watch.

#3.CUTTING IN DUMBLEDORE

Umbridge brings in intense feeling of nastiness not only because she was a wrong doer but because she demoralized someone we liked the most: Albus Dumbledore. When Dumbledore was addressing the great hall, she interrupted him with a sugar coated vile hem..hem..(disgusting cough though). This scene would have ignited sparks of anger for sure. ‘How could she interrupt the Great headmaster!’. And, when she became the headmaster of Hogwarts, she was no way acceptable in Dumbledore’s place nor she did justice to the position.

#4. RIDICULOUS REFORMS IN HOGWARTS

Leaving alone the legislation she had put forth in the ministry, those she exercised in Hogwarts was a so sure reason to hate her to bits. The educational decrees which included the ban on Weasley products, closing of student clubs and importantly the ‘Inquisitorial squad’ made our senses go mad.

It would not be definitely wrong to call her a monster disguised in human attire and firing Trelawney would add extra support to this statement.

“Hogwarts is my home. You can’t do this”.

These words from Trelawney left almost all audience with dampened eyes. Thanks to Dumbledore, he somehow stopped that monster.

#5. WICKED SMILE AND THE COUGH

This should be the first point actually, but this stands here because her toad like face and a wide straight cunning smile needs no further description of her sadistic nature. One most displeasing part of her attitudinizing behavior is her mild throat clearing cough Hem…Hem.

All of us would have been happily cheering inside when Professor Mc Gonagall asked, “May I offer you a cough drop Dolores?’. Well done Professor, you heard us!

CONCLUSION

We are done with all reasons for hating Umbridge. Now, on a serious note, Dolores Umbridge is a beautifully sculptured character of Rowling. Turning audience’s attention towards a negative character in a crucial fifth part (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) ,not only requires a strong creation yet a strong development of the same. A villain’s victory lies in the amount of hatred it receives. In that note, Dolores Umbridge has made you feel sick, every time she popped up on screen. Her disgusting villainism is as menacing ( or even more) than Lord Voldemort itself, which is the true success of Umbridge!
