To Survive and Remember.

As of about a year ago, I have been a survivor. I didn’t tell people, including my mother, about it for a long time. Why? Because I didn’t think it fit the “bubble” we so often put sexual assault into. It wasn’t the type of situation so often portrayed in the media. It was more subtle. It was a kind text from an old friend saying that we should share a few final words before his graduation in two weeks. Then it was walking into an apartment that was empty except for us, even in the afternoon. Then it was friendly conversation. Then it was a…

driving at 1 a.m.

tires spinning not nearly as fast as my mind, though. engine running like I wish I could music resonating through the metal box that feels more like home than the bed I sleep in. a trail of headlights in front of me like a beaded chain of lives all running to or from something. the crisp fall air fills my lungs, leaves a chill down my spine that could only be cured by your touch. so, I keep driving,

Commencement.

Exhaustion wakes me up Reminding me that I am not me If I am rested. Adrenaline and caffeine Propel my body forward Through the cycle that is my life. No time to think, only time to do, Do Do Do Do Do you think of me as much as I think of you? Reminders for each day: Breathe in and out Eat at least once (You will be proud if it’s only once) Keep your eyes scanning for new people For you never know where you will meet

We Love Love.

It’s all you need. — “All I’ve got is nothing but a little bit of love” — Matt Shultz, Cage the Elephant The more I go on, the more I realize how much we as humans are focused on love. Whether it’s self love, attention from family, appreciation from friends, recognition from co-workers or bosses…

How We Experience Experiences

A Short, Late Night Thought — As I was watching the legendary Gilmore Girls yesterday at an ungodly hour of the night, I watched as Rory Gilmore was in the midst of an exciting adventure with her new beau, Logan. She says to him, “It’s a once in a lifetime experience!” and Logan responds, “Only if you want it to be,”. I don’t usually remember lines from TV shows I have binged watched for hours on end, but for some reason, Logan’s line stuck with me. It got me to thinking about our experiences in our day to day lives. Any moment can be an incredible memory…all we have to do is make it one.

The Shadow of You Meeting The Shadow of Me

I found an old picture today… It’s the shadow of you meeting the shadow of me. A remembrance of the little people we once were who will always be in the past…behind us. But a reminder that sometimes, (I call them the best times) when the sun shines just right or the stars shine a little too bright, and our shadows stand in front of us leading the way. This is a response to the Imagà Imaginings prompt by Shirley Jimenez .

A Note To My Father:

To the man I will never know. — Hi, Dad. My name is Julianne, and you helped to create me. I know nothing about you and you definitely don’t know anything about me, but what I do know is that I want to thank you. You probably never knew that you’d get my birth mother pregnant; God, you…

Blessings

A Farewell Poem — I pray that you find your way in life, however that may be; I pray you find the beauty in everything you see; I pray you see yourself as perfect in every way; I pray you experience Jesus at some time every day. I pray that you stay safe, and always do what’s right; I pray you always feel thankful when you go to sleep at night; I pray your lives are filled with love, from everyone you meet;

Apparently today is National Chocolate Ice Cream day…Now that’s the kind of news I like to wake up to! Knowing I have an excuse to eat some chocolate ice cream today five minutes after waking up from a deep sleep is quite the feeling. Incredible. …

To A Star

An Ode to a Friend — hello there, little star. how long have you been shining? you sure are light, and you sure are bright… i can see myself reflected in you. you appeared after a few minutes, while my eyes continued to search for the perfect star. and here you are. there are millions of stars trying to twinkle hard enough to take my eyes away from you, but i stay. gazing at your celestial glittering,
