The break for it
The blue and red lights were flashing brighter as she was making a run for the dark forest. Sirens wail, feet smack against the mud floor of the drenched field as Katie makes a break for it. One foot after another she billows through the field and into the dark forest with only one thing in mind: freedom. Dodging one tree after another, she tries to stay afloat. With all of the adrenaline and mess coursing through her veins, she can’t make out the next move she will be able to make.
Leaves start to crunch and stocks snap as she tries to fade away from existence. It’s as if Katie is 1,000,000 feet underwater and no one could hear her. But the issue is, everyone is trying to. Police start to swarm the woods in search of this frantic woman. “What have I done? This can’t be happening again” Katie thinks to herself. Running as hard as her feet will take her and as much as her lungs will allow, she pushes harder. Ten feet, twenty feet, there seems to be no end to this abiss. But Katie finds that end.
It’s as if she met the end of the earth, Katie falls head first down the trench. “This is it, this is the end” she admits to herself as she falls further and further off of the edge as if it’s safe there. But it’s not safe there. It was safe in her home, it was safe in the hospital, but it’s not safe here. Running away from the psych ward was not her brightest choice. They were trying to make her out to be what she could’ve been- normal. But, she didn’t want this. It pained her and this brought her to her final end, her peace.
