A Swimmer’s Tale

The end of the four hundred freestyle relay was coming, Michael Phelps came in first and I knew then, at that moment, that I wanted to be just like him. In 2008 I had already been swimming for the last year or so, and I already aspired to become an Olympic swimmer. I was almost seven years old at that time. But things change as time passes, instead of swimming, I focus more on my schoolwork and I dream of working in the medical field, whether that is being a doctor or a surgeon. Now I dream of attending Yale.

The pool at Prospect High School

This song inspires me to do my best and it reminds me that everyone fails on their way to greatness. I love this song because as a perfectionist, if something doesn’t go the way I want it to, I get discouraged, but I always listen to this song when I am discouraged and it makes me feel better.

On this particular Friday night the marching band was performing during the football game and since I am in the marching band, I participated.

Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein is an inspiration to me because as a child and student, he was very quirky and he did not act like a genius at all. I admire the fact that he grew up from an immature child to a globally recognized genius. He was not afraid to show who he really is, he was not stopped by society. Even when he was recognized as a genius throughout the world, he still made goofy faces at the camera.

Marie Curie

Marie Curie is an inspiration to me because she spent her life searching for something. She was a Polish-French scientist who searched for radioactive particles. The things that I admire about her is that she searched and searched for radioactive particles for years, without finding anything useful. But after now giving up and continuing the search, she managed to find some, but she ended up dying because of a bone marrow disease that was caused by all of the radioactivity she had been around during her life.

Malala Yousafzai

Malala Yousafzai is an inspiration to me because she stood up for something that she believed in despite what was happening in her country. I admire the fact that despite all of the death threats that she was receiving, she still stood up for education for girls. Even after she was shot and almost died, she is still standing up for education and now she even has a campaign dedicated to it.

When I grow up I want to do something with the heart. Whether that is being a heart surgeon or being a heart specialist and studying it. I just dream about it because the heart is my favorite organ in the body.

My favorite quote is an Albert Einstein quote “The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.’’
