Day 5: Edinburgh at Night

When we flew over Scotland from Iceland, we were treated to wonderful views of the highlands, but as we descended into Glasgow we were enveloped in a thick fog. It was a fitting way to enter Scotland.

From Glasgow, we traveled to Edinburgh to check into our flat and grab some much needed pub food before heading out to explore the city.

Edinburgh has a huge New Years celebration, and it’s a shame we won’t be here to experience it. But we were lucky enough to walk through the Christmas market on Prince’s street.

The sun sets early here (around 4:30pm) so it was nice to have the city still lit up with Christmas lights.

After walking through the market, we crossed the bridge into the old town to walk through the small streets and take in the city at night.

I’ve walked these streets before

It’s been 10 years since I was in Edinburgh, but I got the same ghostly feeling as I did back then walking around the city at night time. It’s old sandstone buildings and cobblestone streets give it a spooky and romantic feel at night time. The streets are wet and cold, but the pubs are always warm and cozy. It felt good to be “home”.
