The scariest thing for me is the incredibly low productivity you get from monoculture… A garden / backyard /allotment producer gets 6 times the crop per square meter that a “super efficient modern farmer” gets — with many fewer inputs (even if you cost the human time involved as well as kilos, gallons and dollars).
The only people making a profit from agribusiness are the big corps that sell seeds, machines and chemicals. And of course the people renting out agricultural land to would-be farmers.
If you don’t believe me, check out data from the UK ministry — the outputs from conventional farms are shocking, with or without GMs. I presume the US provides the same data but haven’t checked.
