There are many different types of materials for luggage on the market. There isn’t, however, one that is specifically better than the other. So, when it comes to choosing a material, what’s best is entirely up to you and what you’re looking for in a suitcase. Do you prefer a harder or softer material? Would you like it to be stretchy or not?

Luggage can be made from a few different types of materials. These include leather, ballistic, nylon, polyester, aluminium, polycarbonate and polypropylene to name just a few of the most popular used. Every one of these materials has a unique set of pros and cons, making it a bit debatable as to which one you should choose.

If you’re considering buying leather, you can expect a strong type of luggage, which is heavier than other types of material, such as nylon.

You also have to consider which materials are easier to maintain or clean, since a suitcase can’t just be washed as usual.

The biggest question of all is whether you should choose a hard or soft type of luggage material. If you know which one you’re looking for, you’ll be able to narrow down options and find the perfect luggage fast. For more information about Lightweight Luggage visit this site.

Choosing Between Soft or Hard Sided Luggage

Due to modern technology and the evolution of innovative design, hard-sided luggage is preferred above soft-sided luggage. It is mainly due to hard-sided luggage being cheaper to make. With increased technology, designers and manufacturers have also learned how to make durable, lightweight luggage for both soft-sided and hard-sided types of luggage, which makes comparing the two quite tricky.

The Best Soft Luggage Material Types

One of the most favoured types of soft-sided suitcase material is Cordura, polyester and ballistic nylon. These are more frequently used to make high-quality soft luggage. Polyester is used for making cheaper types of luggage.

  • Ballistic Nylon — This material is durable, thick and abrasion resistant, allowing for it to be one of the best materials that ensure good quality. Choosing this material for your luggage will most definitely last you a long time. The only negative is that there aren’t a wide variety of colour choices as it is generally hard to dye, so you’ll have to settle for either black or navy.
  • Polyester — As the material with the lowest prices, the quality of the material isn’t that good, but if you need an extra bag and don’t want to spend too much, or perhaps don’t even travel that often, polyester is an excellent choice.
  • Cordura Nylon — This material is considered to be one of the most popular, due to its durability, quality and resistance to damage. Another great fact about this material is it weighs a lot less than other materials.

The Best Hard Luggage Material Types

Hard luggage materials are slightly better than soft luggage material types. It is simply because all hard luggage materials are durable and offer a lot more protection when travelling abroad.

Some of the most popular include aluminium, polycarbonate and polypropylene.

  • Polycarbonate — This thermoplastic type of material is a popular choice for hard luggage. It is far lighter than the aluminium and of course, very durable.
  • Aluminium — Many suitcases are made from aluminium. It is a bit more expensive than other types of materials but is considered a favourite choice.
  • Polypropylene — This thermoplastic material is very light compared to other hard luggage materials and is also very resilient, offering a complete 360 on quality all around.
