The Watch

Inspired by the events in Ottawa on October 22, 2014

In memory of all our fallen heroes.

There they stood,

strong and proud,

there on guard,

as flowers shroud.

Ghosts of past,

silent and clear,

as we prayed,

they stood near.

Torch that was taken,

light that was given,

over to us,

from them, to him,

for you, for us.

To their ranks is he now,

on guard for thee.

This is their watch,

for us are they free.

Death can not take

that which we are.

Our heroes are near,

and never too far.

They welcome him home,

we cry for the soul.

Burdened are we,

the ancient toll.

But there will he stand,

with us in his hand.

Joining our fathers, our mothers,

protecting this land.
