What are some of the current trends around contemporary branding? And why are they trends?
I think that as a web media student it’s really important to always have an eye on the current trends related to branding and design. I’ve looked into the web to see what’s trending this year and what’s going to be trending.
First of all, I found that the color of this year is:
This is based on its representation of new beginnings, freshness and environmentalism. I think it’s good to know what colour is going to be highlighting through the year so we get used to work with this color and create new designs that go around it.
When it comes to branding, I found out that this year it is going to be more focused on being more transparent and show the product itself. A good example of how this has been implemented is this picture:
I don't think this is applying too much to technology but for drinks and food we could agree that it looks great, fresh and more trustworthy since we can see from far away what are we going to be eating or drinking.
Individuality is something to look at when you are looking forward to design a new logo. Companies are always going to be looking to be different, have personality and stand out. From this trend we could take another sub-trend, hand-drawn logos. Something made by hand it’s always hard to copy so making a logo that follows this style could be easy to stand out and be memorable. Obviously the company needs to be careful of not making a logo that looks amateur, it has to look professional and highlight.
Flat, clean and literal logos are taking over. Logos need to stand out and be easy to be seen whether if you’re on your phone, tablet or laptop. They need to communicate straight away what the company is about or at least give a little idea about it. This trend became really important in 2016 due to the fact that a lot of websites became responsive on smartphones and tablets. Obviously in 2017 people use even more their phones and tablets so I guess this a trend that is going to stay with us more time.
