The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented changes and uncertainty to our lives. The entire dynamics of the human condition has changed globally over a short period of time. Businesses face unexpected challenges, while millions of professionals have lost their jobs.

According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), 93% of the world’s workers reside in countries with a workplace closure measure in place. Working-hour losses increased significantly during the second quarter of 2020, as shown in the graph below.

People think it’s easy to live abroad. They think we get everything we want and that we are surrounded by wonderful places.

They forget our sleepless nights, long work hours, homesickness, or tough days that never end. They forget our fears, anxiety, challenges, and uncertainties.

The truth is: living abroad has never been easy.

We reinvent ourselves to get here.

We make new friends, we adapt to a new routine, and we find a new place to call home…

Am I a loser?!

Have you ever thought of yourself as a loser?
If so, STOP.
Stop comparing yourself to others and build your own journey.

I never thought I could actually make money WRITING.
Since I was a child, I’ve been a good writer. However, I have always done it to register special moments. It has been nothing but a hobby.

When I first joined Medium, I thought only incredible writers were making money out of it. After reading inspiring stories, I began my journey.

How I became confident to write and share my own thoughts? Well…

I stopped comparing myself.

I absolutely…

But so are we.

I thank God for my life
And for the stars and stripes
May freedom forever fly, let it ring
Salute the ones who died
The ones that give their lives so we don’t have to sacrifice
All the things we love

The 4th of July, or Independence Day, is one of the most important holidays here in the United States. It celebrates a historic event, the declaration of independence that happened in 1776.

On this day, the country is full of festivities, including parades, barbecues, concerts, and fireworks. It is a perfect opportunity to…

Let me explain…

June 1st, 2020.
Broward County, FL, USA.

Curfew starts at 9pm.
Protesters were targeting our area.
Some places closed at 2pm. Others were ready to close by 8pm.
All the stores around us were closing. And I was… just waiting. For a call that never came.

At 8:30pm, I called my boss. It wasn’t safe to stay there anymore.
Of course he was aware of the situation. Still, his answer was: “You have to stay. Nothing is going to happen. If the gas station across the street closes, you can leave by 10pm”. …

Being an international student has its challenges as it is substantially rewarding.

In the United States, international students constitute 5.5% of the total higher education population and contributed $44.7 billion to the country’s economy in 2018, according to the Institute of International Education.

Establishing educational programs to attract international students is beneficial for the country itself, but it impacts students’ lives forever. Among multiple advantages, studying abroad enhances international students’ academic career, personality development, and social lives in the long term.

As an international student myself, I have learned so many important lessons throughout my journey here in the U.S…

I confess. I went to a lecture about Blockchain and I had NO IDEA what it was. Yet all the participants were so engaged and into the subject. I felt… LOST.

As the speaker explained the concept, one feature was clear in my head: security. The presentation focused on the Financial sector, but I began to think: What about other industries? What about healthcare?

I got home and did my research. In this article, I share the definition and my findings about how blockchain will revolutionize the healthcare industry.

About 10 years ago, I lost one of my closest cousins to cancer. Part of his treatment was done at “Hospital de Câncer de Barretos” in Brazil, which is the most advanced oncological hospital in the country.

Despite our heartbroken situation, we were fortunate to be surrounded by an exceptional care, equipment, and staff. But there was something about that hospital that got my attention: patient experience.

Every day children were visited by clowns and entertainers to help them through a tough period. The outcome was a more positive environment, thrilled and empowered kids. Yes, those were not easy days…
