An Idea That Needs You
Hi all!
If you follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Tumblr, you probably know that I’ve been going crazy on Instagram for a few weeks now.
If you don’t, just take a look. I promise, my Instagram feed is bonkers!
So far, I’ve been sharing interesting moments captured by photographers across the world and some “good” photos I (somehow) managed to shoot on road trips and at work (no talent there, I assure you).
Surprisingly, some people share my taste in photography. So, I went from having about 150 followers, mostly friends or colleagues at work, to over 600 followers in 4 weeks!
I have to admit, I re-posted a lot of fantastic photos (credit some amazing photographers out there) and overused hashtags. While 600 followers is nothing compared to the millions of people that follow celebrities, I’m happy.
First, I’m no celebrity and not really popular in any way. Second, I’m not even the ‘guy next door’ that some cute girl has a crush on.
I’m actually that awkward nerd sitting in the front row you’d always broadcast “STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM ME” vibes at.
So, in short, I lucked out. Now, my next goal is to try and create more original content (remember, no photography talent here) to see if results in better engagement… When in doubt, ask for help. I asked my friends and received a variety of suggestions — one of them was really helpful.
“Think about doing something different. Maybe a theme-based series on Instagram?”
I put in some thought into what ‘theme’ I’d like to work on and here’s something that I think will be COOL but I can’t do it alone. Well, I can, but it’ll be more fun and more interesting if a couple of people work together!
Music Is Universal
While we might not have the same tastes when it comes to personal favorites, good music can be appreciated by anyone. So, I thought, why not try creating picture cards that show a line from a song with the artist/album cover as the background? Like those Lyric Cards that Musixmatch creates?

Doesn’t look too impressive when I’m the only figuring out which songs to create cards for, but bring together a few people and you have lots of cards for lots of songs. Some of them might be a discovery to some of us too!
After a week or two, we have a few dozen cards that you can re-arrange or sort into your preferred order. Make a virtual playlist out of it, maybe?
To be honest, I’m sure these cards will not be of any real use. With our natural ADHD tendencies, we might forget all about it in a month. However, the journey might be worth it. It’s just a fun thing to do, that takes less than a minute of your day!
All you need to do is share the name of a Song and the Artist/Band. I’ll create a ‘Lyric Card’ (no, not through Musixmatch), post on Instagram and tag you. Let’s see how many cards we end up making over the next week…
No limit to the number of inputs. You like 10 songs? Share the list.
Interested yet? Well, if you are, tweet and tag me “@k3sava” (remove the quotes, okay?) and I’ll get started. No comments or messages on Facebook please. I’m going through a Facebook de-addiction phase and trying to stay away from it…
If you’re not interested in contributing, but interested in seeing the results of this experiment, check for “@k3sava” or “#OurMusicCards” on Instagram.
Finally, if you’re not interested at all and you are still reading this… My friend, there is something seriously wrong with you! Don’t waste time reading stuff you’re not interested in. Go read a good book! Kidding aside, thanks for staying with me so far and have a good day!
Let’s get started.
