My Sunshine

It’s baffling how such a bright ray of light was created from such a dark storm. The glow that you radiate could power a thousand lighthouses, driving the lost boats of the treacherous sea, home. Yet, you can’t motivate all. One refuses to use you as a guide, as she floats out in the deep, lost in waves of her own selfishness.

The notches in your puzzle piece of personality, fit in our gaps — you flourish here, with us, and I can see in your relaxed manner and warm eyes that you know that, too.

You need us as much as we need you.

Within such a small body lies a massive power of reunion and love. Though crooked, we can easily straighten the traits that were taught to you by a careless hand.

You awaken feelings in me that I had presumed to be slaughtered by my past. Seeing your pure innocence and untampered trust brings a lump to my windpipe and blurs my vision with the sheer force of protection and responsibility. You should be mine — you should be ours, but you’re not.

She doesn’t deserve you. She doesn’t deserve the infinite chances that she has been handed. She could still look at your beautiful, miraculous face while she injected the poison in her veins once more, the poison that had the very power to kill you in the first place. She could still get past your wants and needs as she continued to place herself before you. She repeats these revolting mistakes, but for how long? What mistake will it take for her hazed eyes to clear, or will they ever?

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine

You make me happy, when skies are grey

You’ll never know, dear, how much I love you

Please don’t take my sunshine away.
