Car and Caravan Flipped on Busy Highway
A horrific car accident on The Sturt Highway leaves an elderly couple almost untouched in a lucky escape, writes Kathleen O’Connor.
A 65 and 63 year old couple were taken to the Wagga Wagga base hospital in a stable condition earlier this morning on the Sturt Highway, only 10km out of Wagga Wagga.
It’s not one of the first car incidents on the roads in the Riverina region.
Fortunately no one was seriously hurt.
The car was seen on the side of the road with the caravan flipped on its head.
A spokesperson for the New South Wales Ambulance service said paramedics responded to the incident at around 10:30am.
A spokesperson for the local police station suspects that the elderly couple simply lost control of their car after reaching a high speed on the highway.
It is believed the male was driving the couple out of town with the caravan securely on the back after the infamous local caravan show in town.
The paramedics assessed the couple for any major injuries focusing on hands and spinal injuries particularly to the women before being taken to the Wagga Wagga Base hospital.

The accident caused delays to Westbound traffic due to the safety of the response team on the scene, but was able to clear the traffic congestion shortly after.
The couple is now being treated for minor injuries in a lucky escape.
Police stress caution to all motorists travelling on the busy highway.
