I definitely find nothing so moving in the sense of being challenged to shift my inner place as learning about another person’s ambitions, fears, hopes and dreams. There can be moments of incomprehension in what can be quite a roller coaster of a conversation as a mutual dialogue of inquiry allows two people to peel off the layers of our social shields. As space is created for two points of view to grow closer there can be a tendency to fight the shift, to stop listening, maybe for fear of definitely abandoning a certitude to the combined attacks of argument and emotion. Can one really know another without gravitating towards them in understanding or away from them in repulsion or perhaps even horror? Can one really know another without abandoning part of self? It seems vain to think so.
