Hello, friends? Already here? I am sorry for keeping you waiting. I know you feel forgotten but don’t worry, you are all on my mind. How could I forget about my good people? It’s good being here today, and without taking much of your time, I will take you through the some of the things I have learned during my career journey. I already briefed you about Andela, and you all know I am pursuing my dreams. Well, in line with cyber security I have learned a lot of things. I know you are all wondering, how? Haven’t you been practicing software development? Pretty much yes, that is the larger picture. But remember I told you that security fails because it most of the time comes as an afterthought. Take a scenario where you build a shelter to protect yourself from cold and the scorching sun. But then you remember, oh, I have to protect myself from the bad guys and wild animals. You, therefore, decide to buy a huge padlock to lock the door. Now, comes the question, is the security here an afterthought or a forethought? Let me help you, in such a scenario; security is an afterthought. An example of security as a forethought is when you decide that you want to protect yourself from intruders. So when designing your house and the compound, you include booby-traps or even incorporate an electric current inside your walls; which should unpredictable to the bad guys. What do I want to say, when designing software, security measures should be part of conception. By the way, that reminds me; I did not manage to include any security measures in my application because I did not know where to start. What does this tell you? Security is not easy. That is one of the lessons I have learned from this career journey. So I am well aware, and I am pretty much prepared to face this challenging journey; I won’t stop till I achieve all I want. What do I want? I want to use technology to change the world.
Did you know that software development works in all field? As a nurse, you could build innovative software that would make the health sector services more efficient, who knows. For instance, you could make a technology that separates blood from a virus. Is it that possible? Well, I don’t know, but I believe it is. Personally, as a cyber security and forensics expert, I want to develop software that will help growth in the field. For example, we could automate the forensics investigation process and make it easier to locate crime perpetrators. I know you are asking how but it is very possible. All you need is innovation, creativity and intelligent minds to put it all together.
I have learned that I can do a lot on my self, provided I take the challenge of learning on my own. It is true that I own my own learning. Challenging myself to accomplish certain outcomes within a defined period I should be able to gain what it takes to become a world changer eventually. My learning won’t stop here; I will keep learning and making myself familiar with the many fields that exist waiting to be explored. Friends, take the challenge too and join me in becoming world-changers through innovation and learning. For today, that’s all I have to say. Hope to see you soon.
