Don’t worry about having somebody on your team becoming better than you. This would mean that you did your job as a mentor. You’ve given him the right amount of motivation, direction and courage to achieve it.

This is the best way to prepare them for the jump between the puberty and seniority. Sometimes it’s okay to let them fail.

Eventually when and if they grow up, having several failures, they will become more responsible and grateful for the help. They can even move on to the next level.

As a manager you should not be afraid of having people better at coding than you. This is a great asset to the team and you make your team stronger if you train or hire such individuals.
