Time is a weird thing
Time is a weird thing (Today, 2022) Let me tell you the story that inspired this drawing.
2. I am at my girlfriend’s aged parents’ summer cottage. Yesterday, we all took a walk to the lake, and we started throwing stones into the lake to get the most skips, everyone else but my girlfriend was able to get more than 2 skips. She was disappointed 😔 We all tried to help by searching through the stones on the lakeshore for the flattest ones — the flattest ones make the most skips. Yet, she kept dunking them all into the lake. Her mom and dad didn’t stop looking for flat stones and encouraging her.
The relationship between my girlfriend and her parents can be described as loving and childlike. I could feel that despite how old she is, she is still their child and they would do things to make her succeed, even if it is something so mundane🌊
My observation of my girlfriend’s interaction with her parents took me back to my interaction with my parents. I forget how old I am with my parents — time is often a weird thing. “I am not a child”, I usually would say to my mom when she calls and tells me to “remember to be a good girl, okay? “. My memories are filled with little moments of laughter and love, and also thoughts that rationalize times I wasn’t sure why they did the things they did. My experience yesterday brought back the most substantial feelings of nostalgia I have ever felt.
Time truly is a weird thing, and being in nature, in the middle of nowhere emphasizes the power of relationships and mortality.
