“Kaprysy” by Sanah is the fifth album from one of the most popular Polish artists of the moment, and it had a lot to live up to following her fantastic last three albums. While it may not quite reach the same high highs, it is a solid collection of songs that includes multiple genres and styles, keeping listeners engaged throughout.

Although they are not credited, returning collaborators Vito Bambino and Dawid Podsiadło feature on one song each, with both of them being welcome additions. With Sanah’s most recent albums being musical adaptations of poems and an album full of collabs, this is largely her first solo effort in a while, and I consider it an decent display of her artistic talent.

My personal favourite songs include “Sad”, “Hip Hip Hura!”, “Wiśta Wio!”, “Było, Mineło”, “O Miłości” and “Aha”. These tended to be the more upbeat songs, but the variety in tempo and genre in others songs definitely added a lot to the experience, making this a consistently interesting listen. The only songs I didn’t care for were “Talenty I Mankamenty” and “Fafarafa”, the latter of which is still quite fun, but a little too goofy during the yodelling parts.

At times, the production here sounds fairly generic, but despite them not reinventing the wheel, the melodies are reliably solid. Sanah’s vocals shine in a few songs, although I didn’t care for the vocal effects in “Słodkiego Miłego Życzę”, which I fail to see the point of.

Some songs did feel unique, but few actually felt like risks were taken, making this whole album feel slightly safe. While never being truly bad, it did not push Sanah in a new direction musically, which is not a necessity, but considering there was a slightly longer break between her last album and this one compared to her first four, it may not be worth the wait for all listeners.

Overall, I quite enjoyed the experience of listening to this album, but compared to the strong three albums that preceded “Kaprysy”, this one is hard to describe as great. I will award it a 7/10, as it still featured many songs I will eagerly come back to, but few that stand out as mind blowingly good.

I like music enough that I want to start writing about it.
