Curation of Content, A Multi-Faceted Approach
“People really respond to other people’s enthusiasm about things.” — Edith Zimmerman

Karel Roos in her Storify “Online Tools for Active Learning” outlines a curation process called FACETS. This process includes Find content, Assess, Choose, Explain, Tailor, Share. The process is a fairly straightforward one. It aligns with strategies that I have used in the past to make the most of my content curation. I agree with the FACETS method, and appreciate the addition of steps such as explaining, tailoring and sharing that some people might overlook.
While the process itself is very involved, the author doesn’t give much with regard to how one should go about accomplishing each step of the process. The Storify story was crammed full of a wealth of information, but I didnʻt feel like the author did a good job of clearly giving a step-by-step guide for accomplishing the FACETS process. Another thing that impacts the credibility of the piece is a lack of attention to spelling. One glaring spelling error occured with one of the pieces of the FACETS acronym, Tailor was spelt Taylor at one point. This lack of care can hurt an authorʻs credibility and upon first read, I was completely turned off due to the errors. However, because I had to read and comprehend the process for class, I forced myself to overlook the errors and understand the benefits of the FACETS process. Itʻs a good remind to us all to be mindful of our spelling, for it can make us lose credibility.
